The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator makes replacing discontinued or damaged actuators straightforward. It fits a standard 3" straight tongue and uses a 2" hitch ball, so it drops right in where older models sat without any odd spacing or adapter plates. The over-center latch locks down only when the coupler is fully seated, giving you a solid connection every time. Rated at 7,500 lbs, it’s built for the same heavy-duty loads those older Atwood and Titan units once handled, but with updated materials and smoother operation.
Since this actuator comes primed instead of plated, it’s made for weld-on setups and ready for paint right after installation. You can match the finish to your trailer for a clean, uniform look without extra prep work. Weld-on mounting also means no extra bolts or brackets to keep tight over time—just a solid, permanent fit that can take years of towing stress.
Designed specifically for hydraulic drum brake applications, the DX7.5L A-60 synchronizes your trailer brakes with your tow vehicle through surge action. When you slow down, the actuator telescopes forward to apply pressure to its aluminum master cylinder, sending hydraulic force to your trailer’s brakes. The aluminum design cuts down on corrosion compared to cast steel cylinders, keeping braking performance consistent even after repeated use in wet or humid conditions.
Hooking up is easy thanks to the low-profile coupler latch that engages automatically when seated on the ball. The over-center mechanism ensures that the latch won’t partially engage—it’s either locked in place or not at all. That small detail prevents false latches and keeps every hookup secure without needing extra hardware or adjustment.
With its 7,500-lb capacity and standard 3" x 5" mounting layout, this surge brake actuator handles a range of trailer types—from utility and construction builds to boat and travel trailers—without modification. If backing up is part of your routine, pairing it with free-backing brakes allows smooth reversing without any unwanted brake engagement.

Product specs are right on. Well built.
Was exactly what I was expecting, good quality, a fair price, and will fit right on my trailer tongue.
Good job!!!
I ordered late Tuesday evening. It shipped on Wednesday, arrived Friday and my boat trailer was fixed by Friday evening. Product was exactly as advertised and the perfect replacement for my damaged one. Quick and accurate shipping had me back out fishing by the weekend. Very impressed with etrailer service levels.
Paul is awesome!!
I was very pleased with the way he handled the order. I was going to order it online but he suggested that he could possibly have it delivered in 3-4 days. Actually it was delivered in 24 hours.
I thought [other retailers] were quick about deliveries till I ordered from etrailer.
The coupler and the brake actuator fit perfectly and definitely was a great replacement from the Atwood coupler.
Thanks. Paul.
Product as described and will be the needed replacement for the existing actuator on the trailer.
Worked perfectly
Worked well, easy to swap my old one
Great service and fast shipping
Came packaged well and in a timely manner. Product just as expected. Installed and ready to go.
Fast courteous service, great equipment.
worked great
Worked great, replaced an old Atwood, welded in where the old one was cut out. Minor modification to the brake line, easy to bleed master cylinder and then bleed brake system. Coupler is extremely easy to use.
I installed this brake actuator on a 3500 lb boat trailer with drum brakes, is working great so far. Needed to replace the existing broken hitch on my trailer and this was a suitable replacement to get the brakes working again.
Perfect fit exactly the part that I nee ded
Installed and working as expected.
My 1993 Jayco 1206 pop-up was originally equipped with an Atwood weld on hitch with surge brake actuator. The actuator became seized and unserviceable and was obsolete, so it couldn't be replaced. I got this replacement hitch, cut the old one off, and had this one welded on. This is a great option and will be much more serviceable in the future. I am very pleased!
